Jerez de la Frontera is the home of sherry and of the dancing horses of the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art — a performance and a bodega tasting are part of the journey. Nearby, Cádiz — founded by the Phoenicians some three thousand years ago and ringed by the Atlantic — gathers around its golden-domed cathedral, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the West.
The train spends the night in Jerez, and Cádiz is visited the following morning. The equestrian show is usually part of the programme, though it may be changed or cancelled because of scheduling or weather.
