The journey begins in Madrid with an introduction to the capital and lunch. You then board the train at Aranjuez, meet the crew over a welcome toast and visit the Royal Palace and its gardens, before the Al Ándalus continues to Torrijos, near Toledo. Dinner aboard.
Day 2
Toledo & Cáceres — Three Cultures, Then West
A day visit to Toledo, the former capital above the Tagus where Christian, Jewish and Muslim Spain met — a guided walk through the old town, free time and lunch in the city. In the afternoon the train heads west into Extremadura to Cáceres. Night in Cáceres.
Day 3
Cáceres & Mérida — Medieval Stone and Roman Spain
A morning in the walled old town of Cáceres, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of palaces, noble towers and storks' nests in golden stone. The train then continues to Mérida, founded as Emerita Augusta in 25 BC, for its Roman theatre, amphitheatre and bridge, with dinner at a local restaurant. Night in Mérida.
Day 4
Jerez — Into Andalusia
The train runs south into Andalusia to Jerez de la Frontera, the city of sherry, Andalusian horses and flamenco, with time to explore on your own. The equestrian show of the Royal Andalusian School is usually part of the programme, though it may be changed or cancelled because of scheduling or weather. Dinner aboard; night in Jerez.
Day 5
Cádiz & Córdoba — Atlantic Light
A visit to Cádiz, the ancient port city on the Atlantic, followed by lunch near El Puerto de Santa María. The train then runs back through Jerez and on inland to Córdoba, with dinner aboard.
Day 6
Córdoba — Arches, Patios & the Mosque-Cathedral
A full day in Córdoba, once the capital of Islamic Spain: a guided visit to the Mezquita-Catedral — a forest of red-and-white arches — and the whitewashed lanes of the old town, with lunch at a local restaurant. Night in Córdoba.
Day 7
Arrival in Seville — A Grand Finale
Over breakfast the train makes its final run to Seville, where the journey ends with farewells in the Andalusian capital.
